107th Team took the State Cup for the 4th year in a row

Camp Smith, N.Y. --  The 107th Airlift Wing sent four of it's finest marksman to compete in New
York States 34th Annual Combat Sustainment Training Exercise (The Adjutant
General's Combat Match), located at Camp Smith. Since the 1800s
marksmanship training and competition has long been a key component of the
National Guard. This weekend the tradition continued with a 3-day training
event that allows units and individual Soldiers the opportunity to improve
their level of marksmanship, engage in healthy competition, and pick top
contenders to represent the state in national competitions. The modern TAG
Match requires participants to employ the weapons used on the battlefields
of Iraq and Afghanistan. Participants in the TAG Matches learn to improve
their shooting skills and take those lessons back to their units.

This year the 107th Team took the State Cup for the 4th year in a row. The
team won many individual awards as well. The Team Leader, Master Sgt.
Edward Stefik was the individual champion for the combined arms match
involving combat pistol and rifle. He also took 1st place Excellence in
Pistol Competition and 1st place Combat Pistol Competition.

Newcomer, 1st Sgt. Randal Schenefiel took high scorer in the novice
rank. Earning him New York State's Master Sgt. Joseph A. Longbardo Trophy. Tech
Sgt. Ryan Mang took 3rd place Exercise in Competition and Tech Sgt.
Christopher Doherty was 3rd place in the individual rifle match. The team
placed 1st in the General George Patton Pistol match and the National Guard
Infantry Team Rifle match.

"It was an honor to be the team Captain for the 107th AW. I find it very
humbling every time I compete to be in the presence of such professional
soldiers and airman. These folks display some of the best marksmanship
skills in the state." said Master Sgt. Stefik . Members of the 107th will be off to represent NY State in the Winston P.
Wilson National Combined Arms match. A week long competition in Camp
Robinson, Arkansas.
