With Wings as Eagles: The Beginning

The 339th Fighter Group was activated on Aug. 2, 1943, and flew combat missions over Europe during World War II. After being deactivated on Oct. 18, 1945, the group was reactivated on Dec. 8, 1948, as the 107th Fighter Group as part of the newly established New York Air National Guard. (Courtesy photo)
