Joint Chaplains' Conference comes to the 107th Airlift Wing

Niagara Falls Reserve Station --  In today's times it is important to be resourceful. Having this insight, Chaplain, Lt Col James P. Jaeger, Wing Chaplain, 107AW, hosted the 2012 New York National Guard Joint Chaplain Training at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, bringing positive, economic impact to both the base and the surrounding community. The beautiful facilities on base enhanced the entire event. Hosting this training at the base proved to be the best value for the military, and could set the standards for other functional areas.

Over twenty five Chaplains and Chaplain Assistants, from both the Army and Air Guard, came together to cross train and share expertise in a variety of areas. Discussion occurred about how to encourage and promote professionalism throughout the Armed Forces. Various resources available to the Chaplain Corps were shared for a better impact on our Airmen and Soldiers. Programs such as Strong Bonds can be resourced through both Army and Air Guard members to enhance the welling being of the troops. The importance of being culturally competent was showcased utilizing a DVD titled The Force of Faith. Discussion followed on the importance and relevance of religion on the mission in the Armed Forces. Chaplain (COL) Eric W. Olsen, Joint Force Chaplain, provided leadership from the state level on human resource issues in light of all the changes occurring with return deployments and domestic operations.

This conference could not have come at a better time for the 107th AW as we are in the midst of uncertainty. The show of support and stewardship was invaluable. It was a positive and productive experience that will reach throughout the State of New York. All attendees left with problem solving and proactive tools that will assist in the support and enhancement of the mission and the extraordinary care of the airmen and soldiers. All Chaplains and Chaplain's Assistants left conscious of the reality, we are all one New York - east and west; airmen and soldiers together in unity.
