On Dec. 18th during a hockey tournament the Buffalo Stars organized their second fundraiser that benefited the 107th Airlift Wing. The Buffalo Stars' efforts surpassed their expectations, raising a combined $1,200 in gift cards and donations.
"We were very pleased with the generosity of the fans," said Sandi Radwan, one of the event coordinators. "Everyone had a good time and were in a giving mood," she added. During a similar fundraiser held over the 9/11 weekend, the Stars were able to raise a combined $800 in gift cards and donations.
"We were able to help 16 families with those gift cards," said Jeanne Goetze the107th Family Support Coordinator. "Each family received $50 in gift cards that could be used to help out with Thanksgiving expenses," she added.
The latest fundraiser used many of the same tactics as the previous fundraiser. Gift cards and donations were accepted, a Chinese auction was held, and items were raffled off.
"This is great timing," said Goetze. "With Christmas, we have a list of members that can really use some help. These gift cards will really make a difference," she added.
"We are happy that we can help, you guys are out there keeping us safe, " said Radwan. "Because of what you do, we are able to play hockey and go about our normal lives. We are proud that we can help and plan to continue," she added.
