A joyful return

On Aug. 13, three members from the New York Air National Guard's 107th Airlift Wing returned home after a six month deployment. Upon arrival to Buffalo International Airport they were greeted by more than 50 friends, family members and 107th members.
"It's great to be back home," said Tech. Sgt. Kenneth Devole, who had 17 family members eagerly awaiting his return.
"I've missed my dad," said Michael, Ken's son, "I'm glad he's back, he said.
The three members all from 107th AW Vehicle Maintenance Operations were deployed to Sather Air Base, Baghdad, Iraq. While deployed, these members performed vital duties such as transporting helium which is critical for the security of Sather, keeping a fresh supply of H2O close by for troop hydration, and organizing the transportation logistics on Sather AB and throughout the Victory Base Complex.
While deployed Senior Airman Derek Cutter was recognized as Warrior of the week for the week of May 4. Cutter went above and beyond the call of duty. He volunteered his limited free time to collect more than 50 boxes of necessity items such as clothing, toiletries and toys for the Good Neighbor Program. Cutter also volunteered to provide transportation support for numerous USO concert on the VBC.
"It was a long six months," said Cutter. "I'm glad to be back with my family."
